The Goster farm is one of the most historically significant mountain farms in Stuls and has made a major contribution to the social and cultural development of the village over the centuries. Numerous public institutions—including the church, the rectory, school, fire station, and bus stop—were built on land belonging to the farm. The farm was first documented in 1288 as one of the eleven original farms of Stuls. Its central location and fertile, favorable land further underline its historical importance. For a long time, the services of the sacristan and schoolteacher were closely tied to our family.
Over the years, the farm has continued to develop steadily, and for several years now we have been focusing on the direct marketing of our own farm products. Most recently, construction of the farm chalet and the farmhouse was completed. The entire farm is operated sustainably using our own wood-chip heating system as well as solar and photovoltaic installations; the required wood is supplied by our own forests. A natural mountain spring provides all buildings and infrastructure on the farm with fresh spring water.
The Goster farm comprises extensive grassland and mountain meadows, forests, and alpine pastures—valuable natural areas that provide high-quality basic fodder for our many animals and shape the agricultural diversity of our farm.
Livestock farming and crop cultivation have always been part of life on the farm. Even today, cattle, sheep, and goats are kept here and spend the summer months on our alpine pasture. We raise indigenous and endangered breeds such as Pustertaler Sprinzen cattle, Passeier mountain goats, and sheep. Our sheep are shorn twice a year, and the wool obtained is lovingly handcrafted into a wide variety of felt and wool products.
Summer is the most labor-intensive season due to haymaking, as numerous mountain and larch meadows—alongside the grassland areas—are mown to produce fodder and thereby preserved in their traditional form. Our arable land is used to grow grain and vegetables, which are processed into traditional baked goods in the farm’s own bakery. On our farm, we produce a wide range of healthy foods available to our guests and customers. We place great importance on quality, sustainability, and the preservation of regional traditions.
